It's not just that it's expensive and time-consuming to test medicines and other treatments for years before trying them on human beings; researchers who make and publish successful discoveries gain prestige and additional funding opportunities.
There is also every reason to be concerned that the privacy of patients is being violated in many hospitals, with hidden and illegal cameras in the bathrooms and other places where patients ought to have privacy.
