Shelter beds

January 14, 2015

Did they really bring the bunkbeds from the Long Island shelter to the next shelter that's being built, those old, horrible things?

Are they also not going to buy mattresses to replace those decades-old, ripped, body-fluid-stained mattresses, whose stuffing is so uneven that they're a foot high at either end and the middle, with the top part of the mattresses scraping the bottom of the bed frames in the thin parts?

I hope there will be enough sheets and blankets for everyone when the shelter is finished; there often weren't at the Long Island shelter.  During the winter, I would tie a plastic bag around my feet to keep them and my body warm; I had to remember that my feet were tied together if I woke up and wanted to leave the bed at night and in the morning.
