This morning, when a worker at the Pine Street Inn was getting up the women who slept in the section where I was last night, she walked over to me, tapped me in the shoulder, told me "It's time to get up," and then coughed when she was walking away.

That was how my day started, with someone who is paid to contribute to a safe environment for women making a nonverbal gesture toward me that is meant to indicate "You're a dirty slut and a bad person.  Your vagina smells.  You deserve disrespect and abuse at all times, even first thing in the morning, at 6:00 a.m., before you have even gotten out of bed to deal with the rest of your day which will be full of other people treating you this way."
