Several times before today, I have had intelligent and mutually respectful conversations with both of the women who are working at the unit tonight. Why do they decide, out of nowhere, to abuse me? I guess because they know they can. They get bored of sitting in the office, and they decide that harassing me and then lying about it would be fun.
I don't ask and never have asked that people never cough around me. What I have said is that people who deliberately cough at me are harassing me. If someone wants to ask me "How do you know when a cough is deliberate or not," my answer is that I try to be discerning. People who deliberately cough at me because they want to spite me or because they think I'm trying to control everything around me should ask themselves this question: Are they deliberately coughing around me or not? If they are deliberately coughing around me, then they are harassing me, and whatever they think their motivations are for deliberately coughing at me aren't nearly as important as the behavior toward me that they try to justify to themselves.
