It is more gracious to end a mistake than to insist on pursuing a wrong goal.
Also, those who have the capacity to forgive should do that, when wrongs are being righted, and when healthy interdependence or neverending conflict are the only options.
Crimea should be returned to Ukraine. Russia should leave Crimea and Ukraine. Russia should take responsibility for the injuries it has inflicted. Russia and Europe and the United States should try to mend the diplomatic and economic relationships that the Russian government's temporary lapse of judgment ruptured.
The future has a lot of demands that will be less difficult to address if the world that addresses them is cohesive and peaceful.
That's my nonexpert, foreign policy opinion.
