Jamie Foxx

August 19, 2014

You think that I did something to you personally that deserves your abuse?  You think video voyeurism is funny and something that a human being could deserve?

Do you think that, if there had been video cameras when slavery was officially legal in the United States, that slave owners wouldn't have had cameras everywhere in the slave quarters and everywhere on their properties, to control their slaves and stop them from having even the least independence and ability to organize with each other, to observe them at all times so that they couldn't even have private thoughts without fear of punishment?  Do you think that slave owners wouldn't have amused themselves by watching video of their slaves using the toilet, masturbating or having sex with other slaves, and by showing those videos to other white people?  Do you think that they wouldn't have forced their slaves to perform sex acts for the camera, from simply being naked to having sex with each other, inanimate objects, their parents, children and other relatives, being gang-raped by slave owners or their employees, having sex with animals?  Do you think they wouldn't have filmed them being otherwise physically tortured?

Why do you seem to think that there's anything that ever happened to a black slave, when slavery was officially legal in the United States, that the people who profited from slavery wouldn't have videotaped for their own amusement?

I just did another search of your name.  You're going to star in a movie about Mike Tyson?  Mike Tyson, the convicted rapist?  You think that he's not famous enough?  You're hoping to win acting awards for portraying him?  You think that's what a man like him deserves?  You think that's the message to send to the world, to young actors, to young, black men?  "Even if you publicly, famously fulfill every white, racist stereotype about the supposed savagery of black men, you won't spend too much time in jail if you are never convicted of raping a white person, you will get book deals and other paid publicity when you get out, and the pleasure that you gave the percentage of all races that enjoyed the spectacle of you beating other human beings to bloody pulp will ensure you a happy and prosperous old age.  Actually, you wouldn't have gotten much attention if you hadn't unwittingly supported white supremacy with the way you lived your life; nice black men are bad for its image."

What about all of the men of color who have, for generations, been decent human beings in spite of everything that happens to them?  Who speaks for them?  Who represents them?  Who creates awareness of them, who encourages their children to respect them, who supports their efforts to live stable, peaceful lives, to be productive, contributing members of societies which ignore and abuse them?  You think their stories aren't worth telling?  You think that books, movies, music, shouldn't be created to engage their minds and emotions?  You think that they never get tired of the stereotypes of which the societies that surround them, that demand their obedience and deny their humanity, never tire?  You think those men can't be interesting or funny?  You think they're weak?  You think they're servants of the white power establishment? You don't realize that they are everything that proves the superiority of that establishment to be a lie?

You think you're just playing at being a robot?
